homeless memorial 2009

Monday, December 21 2009 was the first day of winter, the longest night of the year. That evening the People's City Mission held a memorial service to honor our brothers & sisters who have died homeless.

Homeless people die from illnesses that affect everyone, frequently without healthcare. Homeless people die from exposure, unprotected from the heat and cold. Homeless people die from violence, often in unprovoked hate crimes. Health care is a human right. Housing is a human right. Physical safety is a human right.

That night we and members of Lincoln's community remembered our neighbors and friends who died without homes.
